To begin with, I would like to introduce myself.

I am Vangelis Doukakis – Shoe designer – Factory precision pattern maker – grading specialist – Technical consultant – Author of a technical book on shoe design.

We are going to start a series of articles. These will be about shoe design and we will explain primarily.

Looking at any shoe we will see that it is made up of many pieces of leather. These pieces are glued together. All these pieces connected are the pattern of the shoe.

• A design with beautiful lines and the wrong pattern doesn’t even make a shoe.
• A design with the right pattern and bad lines makes an ugly shoe.
• A design with the right pattern and beautiful lines becomes the perfect shoe.

So this is why the pattern has the first say in the construction of the shoe. Everything else, shoe history, fashion trends, beautiful lines, etc. they are very good, but without the right pattern, the shoe will never be perfect.
